WSCC Advocacy Statement
WSCC members' concerns about road safety and maintenance are posted in the “Road Concerns” section of the home page, under “Advocacy”. When any club officer is notified of a specific problem regarding road safety, the advocacy committee will often produce a summary statement of the problem and submit it to Public Works for repair or correction. We then follow up, and have had a good track record facilitating repairs.
WSCC is also committed to the creation of more and safer bike facilities in Kitsap County. Riding a bike should not be an act of bravery. Bike facilities make riding safer, easier and less stressful. We are also committed to increasing the number of bike parking facilities so riders can secure their bikes to a suitable rack when they arrive at their destination.
The WSCC Advocacy Committee recently contributed a portfolio of suggested road marking improvements (using mostly just paint) that would improve safety for cyclists enough to foster commuting by bike into and out of downtown Bremerton. These proposals can be viewed in the Advocacy section of the web site under the topic “Bremerton Road Marking Proposals”. Many of these will be posted on the home page for a limited time.
WSCC is currently compiling a list of roads that, taken together, will comprise a regional bike network. When this undertaking is completed we will add this to the Advocacy section of the website.
