Help Us Make the Bremerton Wheels Park Project a Reality!
Imagine a place in Bremerton where a child on a balance bike, a teenager learning to ride a pump track, a bike polo player, and a roller skater can all find a place to play, practice, exercise and connect with their community.
That’s the vision for the Bremerton Wheels Park — a new all-season community facility for people who love to ride and roll. The idea for a Bremerton pump track came from Bremerton parents and other cycling enthusiasts who want to build a pump track in Bremerton. Phil Babcock, a father of a 2-year-old son, spearheaded the effort by presenting the idea to the Bremerton Parks Commission. Other community groups, such as West Sound Roller Derby, have expanded on this idea to create the wheels park vision.
What is the Bremerton Wheels Park?
The proposed Wheels Park would be maintained by Bremerton Parks and Recreation and would include two major features:
● An outdoor asphalt pump track for bicycles, balance bikes, scooters, skateboards and other wheeled activities.
● A covered wheels pavilion providing an all-season space for activities such as roller skating, roller derby and bike polo.
A pump track is a looping course of banked turns, rollers and other features that riders navigate by using their body movements to generate momentum. Pump tracks are fun, but they are also excellent places for children and adults to develop bike-handling skills, balance and confidence.
More Than a Bike Park
Although West Sound Cycling Club is helping spearhead the project, the vision is much bigger than cycling.
Bremerton has lost important places for wheeled recreation. Bremerton’s skating rink closed in 2019, and Peninsula Indoor BMX closed in 2026. The Wheels Park would help fill that gap by creating a safe place for people of different ages, abilities and interests to be active throughout the year.
A covered pavilion could serve roller derby, artistic and recreational skaters, speed skaters, roller hockey and bike polo. The pump track would give kids and adults a place to ride, learn new skills and simply have fun.
Most importantly, we envision the Wheels Park as a community gathering place — somewhere kids and adults can meet friends, make new ones, exercise and enjoy being outdoors.
Where Would the Wheels Park be Located?
Our proposed location is Sheridan Park, across from the Sheridan Park Community Center.
Before we can move on to designing the facility, however, we need the City’s go-ahead to use the Sheridan Park site. We are hopeful that will happen soon.
Once the location is approved, we’ll be ready for the next big step.
Our Fundraising Goal: $15,000
We need to raise $15,000 to pay for a site-specific design for the Bremerton Wheels Park.
This is an important milestone. The design process won’t simply produce a drawing of what someone else thinks Bremerton needs. It will include two community meetings where residents and future users can contribute their ideas for both the pump track and wheels pavilion.
That means the community will have an opportunity to help shape the park it will eventually use.
The site-specific design is proposed to be prepared by American Ramp, a company specializing in asphalt pump tracks and skate parks.
What Happens After the Design?
The $15,000 design is just the beginning — but it’s a critical beginning.
With an approved site, a professional design and community input behind the project, the City and project supporters will be in a much stronger position to pursue grants and other funding for construction.
Our path forward looks like this:
City approval of the Sheridan Park site → Raise $15,000 → Community input and site-specific design → Pursue construction grants → Build the Bremerton Wheels Park!

Creating a Wheels Park won’t happen overnight. It will take cooperation among the City, local organizations, park users and people throughout our community who believe Bremerton needs more safe, welcoming places to be active.
